Who is Markel?
Markel is the British Gymnastics partner for legal support. They empower you to start, manage and grow your club simply, safely and affordably, thanks to their comprehensive legal and business solutions platform and access to experts when you need them.
What do I get with Markel?
As part of your British Gymnastics club membership, you’ll have access to a designated 24/7 legal and business helpline to power your club forward. Your club will also have access to the Business Hub. The Business Hub contains a whole host of resources and templates to help your business thrive, including DIY contracts, policies, forms, and letter templates, covering every area of business, including health and safety, trading and contracts, and cyber and data.
Legal Helpline
As a British Gymnastics registered club or affiliated organisation, you have free access to a team of over 40 experienced qualified solicitors through the Markel legal services. They can give you tailored advice on a whole host of business matters.
It is critical that you contact Markel and follow their advice on matters that could result in legal action, this is to ensure the cover is in place to protect the club.
Here are a few examples of the day-to-day business and legal issues their team of experts can advise you on:
- employment
- health and safety
- commercial law matters, including discipline
- performance and conduct management processes
- grievance procedures

- unlawful discrimination

Can British Gymnastics give me employment law advice?
At British Gymnastics, our team of Business Support Operations Partners are here to provide an extra layer of guidance and support to our clubs, however, for expert legal advice, you should contact Markel. Contacting Markel and following their advice also ensures that you are covered for insurance purposes. Please note, the Business Support service at British Gymnastics does not extend to drafting or checking documentation in this area for clubs.
What happens when I request a call back?
You will receive a call-back from a qualified and experienced solicitor, barrister or otherwise suitably qualified adviser. You can expect them to identify your options, make recommendations for your next steps and provide you with guidance and links to other helpful materials if relevant.
